Niño de Elche
Original language: Spanish
The community protects you but it also imposes its rules. If you don\'t respect them, the community won\'t forgive you.
Niño de Elche was a child prodigy cradled by the flamenco community. In his adolescence, he started playing around with the norms for flamenco. This led to a violent confrontation with his family and fans of the cante jondo which still continues today.
In fighting for his freedom, Niño de Elche recovered the essence of flamenco which was always far removed from the rigidity of orthodoxy.
While he was dynamiting flamenco, other communities that had been mainained by the family, the Communis Party, the Spanish Underground scene or their own identity were also falling.
