SINOPSIS

2,500 prisoners eke out a miserable existence in Fort San Cristóbal, which has been converted into a prison. Hunger, cold, disease, overcrowding, abuse, and death are part of daily life for prisoners brought from all regions of Spain. The fortress, with a capacity for 500 prisoners, holds five times that number within its walls. Greedy administrators line their pockets with the money meant for the prisoners’ food, causing starvation, disease, and constant deaths. The prisoners’ wives travel hundreds of kilometers to see them for 15 minutes behind bars; some stay in Pamplona and weave a network of solidarity to support one another. Driven by desperation, a group of prisoners secretly plans a suicidal escape for months. On May 22, 1938, without firing a single shot, 20 defenseless men took control of a prison guarded by 150 well-armed soldiers. An almost perfect plan, brilliantly executed… But they made a mistake. A crucial blunder that would turn the escape into a deadly manhunt.
