The organisers of the San Sebastián International Underwater Film Festival (CIMASUB) are pleased to announce that the call for entries is now open for our annual competition, which this year celebrates its 49th edition. Once again, we invite photographers, filmmakers and lovers of the underwater world from all over the world to share their underwater gaze. The deadline for submissions is 15 September 2025 and, as in previous editions, photo galleries, short films and documentaries that highlight the beauty, biodiversity and fragility of our oceans are eligible. Our goal remains the same: to give visibility to the underwater world, to raise ecological awareness through images, and to move the public by showing what goes on under the surface of the sea. Because you only protect what you love, and you only love what you know. This year, more prizes than ever! Thanks to the support of new sponsors, in 2025 we are significantly expanding the prize pool. All gold winners in each category will receive a trip as part of the prize, in addition to the usual awards. Yes, all of them! New award highlights include: - Atmosphere Resorts & Spa Award: 4 nights in Deluxe Suite for two, breakfast included, 10 dive package per person, and round-trip Dumaguete-Atmosphere air transfers. A gift valued at over €2,500. - Anilao Beach & Dive Resort Award: 7 nights in Superior room with full board, 12 Nitrox dives, and transfer Manila-Anilao-Manila. Accompanying person only pays 50%. Valid for July, August or September. Valued at more than €2,000. - And as every year, our star grand prizes: two live-aboard cruises with the S.M.Y. Ondina in Indonesia, with a companion for 50%. A unique experience worth more than €6,000 each. These prizes, added to the more than €25,000 in total value, make CIMASUB 2025 a particularly attractive edition for creators from all over the world. All the necessary information to participate, including the competition rules, the entry form, the prizes and access to the FilmFreeway platform, is already available on our website. In addition, we offer the promotional code CimasubFamily2025 to make participation from FilmFreeway free of charge. During the month of October we will announce the list of winners, which will be communicated via email, our website, social networks and media. The final touch will be the festival, which will be held on 13, 14 and 15 November 2025 at the Teatro Principal in San Sebastián, where we will screen a careful selection of the best works received and experience, once again this year, the magic of underwater cinema on the big screen. CIMASUB is much more than a festival. It is a community of people united by their passion for the sea, art and dissemination. Every year we are moved by your talent, your creativity and your commitment. We dream of meeting again this November with old friends and new perspectives, to continue learning, enjoying and defending the ocean together. Congratulations to Andrey Shpatak, whose photograph, with which he participated in last year's edition and which was officially selected for the CIMASUB photo exhibitions, has been chosen as the official poster image for this year's edition. Thank you for joining us. Thank you for making CIMASUB so great. We look forward to receiving your works with great enthusiasm!

Generic information

The Donostia-San Sebastián International Underwater Film Series, also known as CIMASUB, is a non-profit association whose aim is to raise awareness of the seabed and transmit respect and love for it.
It was founded in 1975 by a group of divers belonging to Subacuáticas Real Sociedad, who were passionate about the sea and underwater images. For decades, this event has become a very important international event in the underwater film and photography sector.

For professionals of the underwater image...
After 48 editions, we have become the longest-running underwater film festival in the world. CIMASUB is a world reference in underwater film festivals, receiving short films, documentaries and photographs from all corners of the world. Works came from more than 80 different countries in the last edition.
We are a highly prestigious international competition that offers more than 25 prizes in each edition in the three main categories, documentaries, short films and underwater photographs. In each category, we award prizes to the best works submitted from all over the world, the works of our Cantabrian Sea, works of ecological awareness, works made by female photographers or videographers.
To enter the CIMASUB competition, entries can be submitted between April and September each year. The main event is held during the month of November in the city of Donostia - San Sebastian.

For the public...
Thanks to the use of such an attractive format for the public, such as film and photography, we can show all the beauty and biodiversity hidden in our oceans, and show the serious situation they are in due to human behaviour and attitude towards the problem of marine pollution and overfishing. We always make all our events with FREE ENTRANCE in order not to put barriers to reach as many people as possible.
Wherever we go we offer three sessions of underwater cinema, a photographic exhibition and our beloved underwater Txikiziklo for the pupils of the schools in the area.
CIMASUB invests all its efforts in improving every year to achieve higher quality content, increase its ability to raise public awareness, and have a presence in more places to reach more people. All our activities focus on themes that help us to understand the importance of the sea and our close relationship with the environment, seeking to raise awareness, train and involve people in the solution to the serious situation it is suffering.
In addition to holding our main event at the Teatro Principal in Donostia - San Sebastián in November, during the rest of the year we carry out a TOUR that takes us to many other towns in the Basque Country, with the aim of moving more and more throughout the rest of the country.
If you want to know more about us, here you can see the MEMORIES of the results of the last edition held.
Let's take care of the sea and the sea will take care of us.
