Basque. Audiovisual. will take center stage at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival with a dedicated spotlight
Basque. Audiovisual. will play a prominent role at the upcoming edition of PÖFF (the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival), where it will participate as a guest territory in a special spotlight dedicated to its talent.
PÖFF, along with its industry strand Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event, is considered one of the leading film festivals in Northern Europe. It brings together professionals, programmers, and buyers from around the world each year, making it a strategic platform for internationalisation. In 2026, PÖFF will celebrate its 30th edition, while Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event will mark its 25th.
As part of the collaboration, the PÖFF Goes to Cannes showcase will also include a project from the Basque Country, 'Las Hijas', written and directed by Daniel Romero Bueno.
The Basque audiovisual industry is strengthening its international presence at one of the key festivals in Northern Europe. This dedicated focus will showcase a representative selection of Basque productions while also fostering new partnerships with international industry players through its presence at the market.
Basque. Audiovisual. continues to strengthen its position as a dynamic and internationally connected industry hub. Its catalogue currently includes more than 160 production companies, reflecting the diversity, creativity, and production capacity of the Basque audiovisual ecosystem. At the latest edition of the San Sebastián International Film Festival, 38 Basque productions were presented — 27 of them feature films — a record-breaking figure that doubles the number reached in 2024. These are remarkable results for a region of just over 7,000 square kilometres and 2.2 million inhabitants.
The international reach of Basque productions continues to grow year after year. Over the last two years, 242 films have participated in international festivals, collecting a total of 410 awards worldwide. The audiovisual sector generates around 7,000 full-time jobs annually and €472 million in economic activity, representing 27.6% of the Basque cultural economy.
With this initiative, Basque. Audiovisual. reinforces its commitment to the global visibility of the Basque audiovisual sector as part of a broader internationalisation strategy. This highlights the continued growth of its international presence in recent years, consolidating its position in leading markets and festivals.
