The Bilbao Fantasy Film Festival – FANT has selected the winning project of its Grant to Promote the Production of Fantasy Genre Short Films in Basque, an award supported by EITB. The winning project of this 32nd edition of FANT is “Gaua da luze” by Itziar Lamarka and Ane Álvarez, which will receive a €5,000 grant.
The jury was made up of Josu Bilbao, Head of Fiction at ETB; Josemi Beltrán, Director and Programmer of the San Sebastián Horror and Fantasy Film Festival; and Amaia Domingo, Director of FANT, who selected the winning project from among all submissions. According to the jury’s decision, the project by Itziar Lamarka and Ane Álvarez won the FANT-EITB Award “for combining, within a gothic horror proposal, historical context and popular legend, culminating in a powerful climax with a bold aesthetic vision.” This is the third year this grant has been awarded, reinforcing the Festival’s commitment to short films, one of FANT’s defining features since its earliest editions.
The award also aims to support the production of fantasy short films in Basque, helping the winners bring a short film in the language to life.
In 2025, Nitya López won the grant for the short film “Éxodo”, while in 2024 the award went to Amaia San Sebastián for her short film “Olentzerori eskatu nion”.
