East Asian cinema is present at the 32nd edition of the Bilbao Fantasy Film Festival – FANT. One example is the Taiwanese film “Suffocation”, which was presented to the media this morning at a press conference.

In the Bastida Hall at Azkuna Zentroa, one of the film’s directors, Louis Chan, appeared before the media, introduced by Amaia Domingo, Director of FANT. The audience will be able to watch the film this afternoon starting at 7:40 p.m. in Cinema 1 at Golem-Alhóndiga cinemas in Azkuna Zentroa.

Louis Chan is a British director and filmmaker with more than a decade of experience in the Asian film and television industry. A graduate of the New York Film Academy (M.F.A.), he is known for his expertise in drama directing, program production, and advertising campaigns. Among his most notable works are “Fly Singer” (2024), “Tai-9 Road Builder” (2022), and “Perfect Justice” (2019). Louis has received numerous awards and excels in pre-production, filming, and post-production, bringing multicultural perspectives and professional vision to every project.

At an elite high school famous for its prestigious swimming team, the relentless pursuit of glory and competitiveness conceals a disturbing curse that no one dares to speak about. One day, a group of team members accidentally records an illicit relationship between their coach and a fellow student, Dong Ying-Mei, and shares the footage, unleashing a scandal across the entire campus. The disgraced coach is fired and tragically takes his own life on school grounds. Shortly afterward, Dong Ying-Mei’s lifeless body is discovered in the swimming pool. Three years later, on the eve of summer vacation, the team sneaks into the school for a secret nighttime training session, only to encounter a series of mysterious and inexplicable events.
